The Levon Bread Company was born out of a pure love of food, admiration of the culinary arts, and an interest in food science.
The name "Levon" comes from founder's middle name, which resembles the French term "levain" — describing the rise of bread with a sourdough culture.
Our bread is a result of intention, faith, passion, dedication, discipline, consistency, & the relentless pursuit of baking delicious wholesome bread. Throughout our process, we maintain the integrity and art of baking sourdough bread by practicing traditional methods from thousands of years ago. We ferment the dough with naturally-occurring wild yeasts & symbiotic lactic acid bacteria, making it easier to digest and absorb the nutrients from the wheat grain.
Our Mission is to provide slow-fermented, delicious, & nourishing sourdough bread to the tables of Philadelphia, as well as increasing access to healthy, sustainable, and natural foods.
As a staple food, bread is the bedrock of civilization. Sourdough bread is a sustainable food, made to sustain livelihoods and community. We view bread as a vehicle to nourish and fuel our bodies to rise and live fulfilling lives, and be good people to those around us.
Just as sourdough requires patience, care, and a nurturing environment to reach its full potential, we believe in cultivating an environment where every community member can rise to meet their aspirations. We aim to create a community that rises in strength and resilience!
